Text-based adventures to play with friends

A text-based game where you create and shape your own stories. Make a character, pick a world, and after every chapter decide what you do next. For groups of adventurous friends, or bold solo explorers.

A chapter of an adventure in the Universe #1340 app: Barry's Folly and the Cursed Chalice, chapter 1, The Braggart's Burden.

Ever since humans learned to talk, we've told stories.

It's in our DNA.

Universe #1340 takes that storytelling spirit and spins it into an adventure shaped by you and your friends. You don't pick from a list of choices: you write what your character does, in your own words, and the next chapter is written from what everyone did. No two adventures are the same.

You can take it as seriously or as lightly as you want. A murder in a small town, a haunted house, a pirate who can't swim: every story is yours.

How it works

Seven chapters. Your moves.

Portal Bay: join a friend's adventure with a code, or pick a world like Blood ties, Things in the dark or Somebody did it.

01

Pick a world

Vampire streets, haunted houses, murders, the far old west... or design your own: type a plot, or roll the story dice for one.

Writing a move: 'Use silver blaster to shoot the chalice', with the character's inventory of relics above.

02

Write your move

After every chapter, each player says what they do, in their own words. Use the relics in your backpack. Luck decides how well it goes.

The next chapter of the story, written from every player's moves.

03

Read what happened

The next chapter weaves everyone's moves together. Seven chapters later, you come home, if you survived.

Made for friends

A few minutes a day, together

While you can play solo, we designed Universe #1340 to connect people through stories. Having something to play daily with your friends is a great way to stay connected. If that something adapts to everyone's routine, even better.

  • Up to four playersOpen a portal and send your friends its six-letter join code. They can play as guests, no account needed.
  • Your paceA new chapter every 24, 12 or 4 hours, or as soon as everyone has answered.
  • Solo, tooPlay alone and get the next chapter the moment you send your move.
Home in Universe #1340: a map of rooms (Quarters, Portal Bay, Library, Museum, Cemetery, Hall of Fame) and the adventure in progress.

Stay alive

Come home, or rest in peace

Your character has stamina. Bad luck, bad choices and missed chapters wear it down, and in the most dangerous worlds the story can kill. Survive and you bring home relics and extra points. Fall, and your next character carries on your dynasty.

The Museum: pixel-art relics left behind by fallen characters.
RelicsObjects you find on your adventures and carry into the next one. When a character dies, theirs go to the Museum.
The Cemetery: gravestones with epitaphs for characters who died in their adventures.
The CemeteryEvery fallen character gets a grave and an epitaph. Light a candle for a friend.
The Hall of Fame: the top dynasties and living legends by points.
Hall of FameThe greatest dynasties, and the legends still alive.

Worlds

Pick a world, any world

Every adventure lands in a new reality of the kind you choose. A few of them:

Somebody did it

In here, there's always at least one murder and almost everyone has a motive.

Blood ties

Realities where vampires and humans share the streets, the bars and the bed.

The house

Every house in these worlds is a haunted house.

Neon rain

Rain-soaked megacities run by corporations, where memories, identities and body parts can be bought, leased or repossessed.

The long road

Old kingdoms, cursed objects and people taking very long journeys to get rid of them.

Out past the last star

Humanity went far, met company, and is no longer sure it was a good idea.

The meeting never ends

Realities made entirely of offices and the slow grind of the rat race. Bob is late again.

He is a pirate

Pirates who can't sail and can't swim, but still try to live the pirate life.

Design your own

Write the plot yourself, set the tone and the danger, or roll the story dice and see what comes out.
